Hubby had his operation. Things are slowly coming along. He had to realize that he couldn't go back to work 4 days after the operation, which then set him back weeks in recovery. Basically it is one day at a time.

After this experience it gets one to start thinking about what is going on in their life. What's more important and what isn't. Why get worried over the little stuff and get upset. (note to self: re-read this sentence several times a day!) I myself have been doing a lot of thinking and need to change things to make it better. It will be hard at first be it has to be done. Sometimes I wish I had the power Samantha has on Bewitched and just twitch my nose and every thing would be as we would want it. But alas, not going to ever happen.

Hubby is in the hospital with a ruptured appendix. They have to drain the area first before they can even take out the appendix. Hopefully they are looking at Tuesday to come home. He will have a draining bag attached to him but at least he is home. Then when its clear they will remove the appendix. He also comes home with insulin. We found out that is a diabetic also. So a lot of life changes are in store for us. Here's hoping................................

At least it wasn't for me this time. Poor hubby hasn't been feeling well and after a week I finally got him to a doctor. XX-ing fingers that he doesn't have any problems with his appendix. They made him do many tests that he needed. Hoping he doesn't have any problems with his thyroid or even have diabetes. He goes in for an ECHO next week, because he has an irregular and a fast heartbeat. I never could figure out why guys don't like going to the doctor's. My Dad was like that. He said I come first with doctor's. I said he needs to go because he is the one who works and if he gets sick hang it up. At least after a 2 hour wait, I was able to get some reading done. That was the quietest office I ever been in. No cellphones in this one.
Here's to waiting for results........................

Well, it is quiet here and a little boring. Hubby is not feeling well and refuses to go to the doctor's. I'm hoping it is not his appendix and it was just something he ate. But if he is not better by tomorrow I am dragging his you know what to the emergency room.

Looking for new book to read. Finished a 3 part book and the 4th won't be out till fall.

Not wanting much to play WoW. Many issues in regards to the game that have really depressed me and hubby. Want to play a game to have fun yet there are those (elitist gear score snobs) that feel you should play it their way or you are not allowed to play with them. Feels like I am back in grade school. I mean, come on people it's just a stupid video game. The world will not stop rotating on its axis if you don't kill the Lich King. The way I feel is if you don't want to play with us, then you need to find a new place to play because we want to play for the enjoyment of the game and with those that feel like us. So we will go on for a few hours at a time and work on other stuff with our characters. Lots of achievements to do.

I was sitting in the waiting room at the dentist's office trying to read n article in a magazine. Sounds simple doesn't it? But that was virtually difficult to do. Why? Because over a half a dozen people were just chatting away loudly on their cellphones or receiving calls with the sound so high it could be heard in the next town. They just sat there chatting away with out ever a concern that they are disturbing anyone. I remember the day when phones hung on the wall, that was it. You had to be home to use it. Yes, I do have a cellphone but I must be the only person besides my hubby who never uses it. We only got it for an emergency when we travel. So I use a prepaid because I can't see paying all that money for something I don't use.
So I want to put this out there and see if you can go 1 day without using your cellphone. Can you do it?? I know I can.

I need a place to vent. So I guess this is the place. ERRRRR. I wonder why there are some people in the world who think that they are the be all to end all. Don't they realize that they just make themselves out to be a jerk. And that no one will eventually want to be around them.
How does one deal with this person? Let them rule the world and make your life uncomfortable? Or just go on an ignore this person? I'll have to think on this for awhile.

Well, another year has gone by. Quickly I might add. Everything here is mostly the same with us. Just a little older, and a little tired. We both hit a milestone on our birthdays and we just had an anniversary. It makes you wonder where has the time gone. Next month will not be a kind one. I have 3 surgeries I am not looking forward to. Hopefully they will help. I am tired of feeling this way. Maybe it will help so I won't keep tripping and falling like I did Monday. That was not fun. The first thing I did as I lay there on the ground was pull this laptop out and made sure I did not break it. Priorities, right? Worried more about a computer then myself.

Been reading some on my free time. Started knitting a dishcloth to keep my hands busy when not playing the game. I have been trying not to play to much. Not getting where I want to go so what's the point logging on every day and just standing around. None I say. Thought it would be awesome to get to the end and experience some of the end game fun but it really isn't any. I feel when I log on like I am going off to work. No fun there. Wonder when Diablo 3 is coming out?? So looking forward to that.

Well, off to do some paperwork here. The quicker I get it done the faster I can go home and rest.

Yes, for those who are bored and visit my blog I am still around. Seems that WoW took over my life for awhile. I still play it but I am slowing down to breathe. I am in the process of moving most of my characters to a new server, Draenor. This is where the Ravelry group has their toons. I already have one in their guild, and I'm just waiting for 4 of our toons to transfer over. Seems it will take a day. Should have done this on a non-holiday weekend. I am trying to decide what to do about my main toon, "Phaedraa" and hubby's "Theseuss". Should I stay in Shattered Halls or move them? We'll see this next week or so. Should be going into a new guild, and hopefully we can run some heroics.

WoW was good in the fact that I spent so much time playing it, that I didn't have the time to eat. I have lost a total of 100 pds. I am happy!! I don't have to take my medicine anymore because there is no need. Never thought losing weight would make my life better. I can wear all the tee shirts I bought and never could! *LOL*

I actually put some knitting in my hand this morning. Handing you some *smelling salts* Of course it was a dishcloth. *LOL* Got to start back somewhere. I still have the round ripple afghan I started that I need to finish. I love the pattern but the yarn they sent with it is yucky to me. Maybe I should just find some other yarn to make it, but hate to waste this one. Errr I hate indecision.

I finally got a book in my hand that interested me. Haven't been reading much either. Except for the occasional book in the "reading room". I picked up my copy of the "The Thin Man", which I was always meant to read. It's pretty much flowing like the movie. I thought I had a copy of it but I couldn't find. I'll have to check out TMC and see if they don't sell the collection of this series.

Well, nothing much else has been happening around here. Just thought I would let my friends know I'm still alive and kicking.

Also, if anyone local wants to buy a spinning wheel, contact me. I never learned to use it and would like it to go to a good home.

Yes, I'm still here!

Guess I've been sucked in Azeroth! Loving it and having fun. Also have lost 60+ pds!! So something great has come out of my "WoW Diet". To busy playing to eat. Should have started playing years ago if I knew. HaHa.

Made my goal and got to be a Death Knight, Phaedraa. Jeff and I started ours together, and with 3xps we came out at level 60 rather then the 58 everyone else comes out with. Been working on my rogue also. 4 bars till she is 71. Tinked her to be combat spec, not much into stealthing. Been told that I need to practice my sap. I should be able to do this since I have always been sneaky! Found an awesome sight, Roguerogue.com. Been reading up on how to play Stat. Though this site is a Horde rogue, it has great info. Also have a priest (shadow form) who is now 51.

Been trying to get in some reading. No.1 Ladies Detective is on burner right now. Love the show. Catch it if you can.

Just thought I would let you see what I have been working on besides my WoW.

Okay, the truth be told, is the server is down! :(

So I figured that this is a good time to try and work on my afghan. I went back to my crocheting because truth be told I can crochet way better then knitting. Whereas I am "awesome" at gaming I suck at knitting. The vice-versus goes for Hubby. He is way better at the knitting deal.

I saw this pattern in a Herrschners catalog and feel in love with it. I'm not to keen with the yarn that came in the kit, but since I really wanted the pattern I had to buy the kit. So I might as well work it up, then buy the yarn I like and make another. I was surprised that the yarn that came with it was a wool and soy blend. Most of the kits have the "plastic" acrylic yarn. So as my idle hands start the withdrawl, I am putting them to good use.

I found out also on Ravelry that there is a group for us WoW gamers (World of Warcraft). I was just playing around and wrote WoW in the search and there it was! The "World of Warcrafters". They even have a guild on one of the realms, Draenor, for both the Alliance "Dropped Stitches" and the Horde "Twisted Stitches". I started a toon on that realm but I am still more into the realm we started with. I guess I really like my Shattered Halls "guildys". I also like my Hunter and the new one I started, a Druid. Mostly going to build her up to use her when people go into Dungeons and I can resurrect anyone who dies. Patty to the rescue!

So that is what is new here. That and Spring is here!!!!

What I forgot to mention in the last post was that both myself and hubby play together. So its all in the family. The one good thing about playing is that I can type faster! I also can now use my left hand as fast as the right. This I noticed when I was doing the paperwork and used the calculator with the left. Never did that before. Well, at least something good has come out of playing?? Maybe it might help my knitting.

Well for those who read my blog, I'm still alive. Just been somewhat busy having a little fun playing World of Warcraft. Awesome game. Met some really cool people. Made some new friends. Below is a shot of the character I play. Just wish I had her figure in real time! It's been really fun. Though my old lap top died and had to buy a new one. Then my mouse died, had to buy another one of those. Okay, I'm broke! Guess the game wore it out! Here and in the realm.
Some sweetie bought me my ride in the game. I thought that was very nice of him. Thanks Oberan (Shane). Hubby was a little jealous! But like I said the guys are great that we play with. We are in the "Art of War" guild. I'm known as Naidji, a hunter night elf.

Had to take some time out in the real world to do some bill paying and laundry. Sometimes forget to eat. No complaints there. Lost about 30 pounds since the 1st. Doc was happy. Asked how I did it. Told him it's called the Warcraft diet. I don't find myself hungry anymore.
Well I am off to meet up with the crew. I am off to the Badlands!

Okay, all you northerners can have a good laugh here. This is a little water dish we keep on our porch for our visiting Cardinals. Well after getting down into the 20's all they can have is a mini skating pond. Even the windshield liquid in our car froze! I went to clean it and nothing. Fortunately our pipes did not freeze while all our neighbors did. We both enjoyed the cold weather. Everyone in the family got to wear their sweaters.

It was that time of year again. The dreaded day. The day I keep turning 39!! It was a quiet and rainy day, but nice. Hubby had some beautiful flowers sent to me and got the cutest little cake. As you can see it has a little Octopus on top. It is so cute I really don't want to eat it. He didn't know what to get me so I told him to just get me a new lap top bag I saw. I needed a new one so I was happy. We went out to dinner, early in the afternoon. I wanted to go to Orange Tree and get me a good hot dog! Hey it's my day. Though we did go to a Japanese Steakhouse later. I was good and ate only veggies. We had the place all to our selves which was nice.

We then went and splurged and bought the upgrades to the World of Warcraft we started to play. Splurged, meaning for both our computers (2 each). Now I get to spend the day upgrading them both. And then when I get his new laptop I get to spent the day loading it all on that. What takes so long is the updates that you have to do from the site it self. So that will be what I am doing today. Next, I have to find some room monitors so we can talk to each other. I am getting tired of getting up and going from the living room into the computer room to explain how to do something he needs to do on the game. He just smirks and says, "Well you said you needed to exercise." Can I smack him please!

On the knitting front, here is the scarf I am playing with. I like the colors, and love my Addi's.

We attended the Astronaut Shell Show recently and entered our Cowries. We Got the Masters! It is a beautiful trophy. ( This is our 4th major award for this exhibit!) We really didn't think we were going to win since we were up against another Cowrie collection. But to be "snarky", ours was better! We hauled all 85 feet (48 cases) all the way to Melbourne very early on a Friday. Came home the same day and then went back the next day. We did spend one night down there. Stayed at a nice place right on the beach. Nice suites and beautiful weather. Did find a very small yarn store down there. Though I think the Italian pizzeria was better! I don't think we will be taking this exhibit anywhere to soon. He needs to work on his self collected Florida shell exhibit.

Finally arranged the extra room to put the cases on a bookcase and opened the whole room. Now he can start putting all the shells into the special cases we bought. Have enough room to put a chair in there so I can set up my spinning wheel. Still have to get around to having someone showing me how to get started with it. Though right now knitting is somewhat on a back burner for the both of us. Kind of gotten into World of Warcraft. Installed it on both of our computers to play together. Might buy him a laptop to make it easier for him to play out here with me. But I might just give him my laptop and I'll take the new one. Hey, it's my Birthday and not his! Though I am working on a new scarf just to have busy work. It is the Noro Striped Scarf by Jared. But I'm not using Noro. I'm using Moda Dea Vision in a pretty greenish blue. It will look nice.

Been sick for two weeks now. Sinus are killing me. Since I am not really hungry since I can't taste or smell anything maybe I can lose some weight. Wonder if I can stay sick for a couple of months and maybe lose a lot of weight. Can only wonder.

It also has been a hard time since losing our partner Sam. It is still hard to wrap my mind around it. Still makes me cry thinking of him. I keep thinking he is going to call, and say "April Fools". He will be very missed. He was to young to go. Makes me stop and re-evaluate our lives. Life is just to short.

Let me tell you a story about a man named Jeff......

It all started...... (That's another story)

Lets see, I went looking for the Knitter's Magazine 60, Fall 2000 because according to Ravelry in had a copy of the EZ Adult Surprise jacket (surprise=$) . The handout sheet really didn't give good instructions into how to get a good band and collar let alone sleeves. So I go and buy the Opinionated Knitter book. Zilch. I buy the Knitting workshop book. Zilch. I buy all her books. Mutable zilch. So the last resort was surfing eBay. Buy some "shear dumb luck" someone put on a copy of the Knitter's magazine. Bidding was set and I got it. $6, not bad. $20 in postage, way bad. (Now you see where the $$ comes in? I haven't even mentioned the yarn!)

Magazine arrives, calm sets in. Collar gets on, banding goes on. Doing good here. Sleeve get knitted, looks good. Oh, @$#, knitted on backwards. Other sleeve gets done, right side this time, other sleeve gets frooged and corrected.

Sweater is joined. All done. Now comes the task of finding buttons to match the holes. Looking forward to that!

(For those who are wondering why my jacket has stalled at 4 inches, re-read the above. I'm really thinking off frogging it and making my doxie's sweaters instead!)

Well, I finally did it. I bought me a spinning wheel. Here it is! Actually there it is. It is in the mail as of yesterday. Hopefully it will make it home in about 7 to 10 business days. I was watching eBay for a few weeks and I was able to catch this one at a good deal. Plus it is already stained. I hope it looks good in the real. It should be good for a beginning. I have been practicing on a drop spindle for a couple of months. Still feel that I need some more time with the drafting. That seems to be the key about spinning. So more practicing will need needed. I also bought me a really sweet drop spindle. It is a Kundert Spindle. I will have to take a picture of it soon.
Hope the wheel can make it here before Thanksgiving!!!

The Yarn Harlot and the Hubby

We had the privilege to attend a sit down with the Yarn Harlot last night. Well, actually we were sitting down and she was standing. It was a great hour and a half I have had in awhile. Granted, I have only read part of one of her books and half glanced at her blog. So this was an enjoyment to finally get to know a little about Stephanie Pearl-Mcphee. I did buy her newest book, "The Free-Range Knitter". And she was proud the say, it is on the New York Times best seller list. Good for her. It is about time that knitting and crochet, yes I said crochet (for those knitting snobs, but that is another post), is being recognized. It is no longer something that our Granny's or for that matter Great-Granny's did. Or something the spinsters of the family would sit and do to make them selves of value in the family, someone had to knit those socks. But I digress. Stephanie speaks as one of us. She has been there, and still is experiencing the knitting life. I am looking for ward to sitting down and reading the Free-Range, and popping over to her blog. If you ever get the chance to hear her speak, take the time, it is well worth it!

As I walked out the door this morning around 5AM, I could have done a happy dance. It was 57 degrees out. Yeah! Driving home I just opened up the windows and enjoyed the fresh cool air. It was wonderful.

Good news on the homefront. I just paid for our tickets to go and see the Yarn Harlot. She is coming to Jacksonville on October 16th. It should be a good time.

I have been just idling around the house and not doing much. A little reading some knitting and then some spinning. Yes, I did say spinning. I have been wanting to do this for many years but never meet anyone who could show me. When I went to Hanks I finally bought a drop spindle. I also bought some beautiful merino and silk to start with. I went to Jax Ravelry's gathering in August and was shown how by a wonderful person, Chris from Sugarbeestudio's. So I have been practicing for 10 minutes a day to get the hang of it. Hopefully it is coming along good.
I have since then drooling over the roving selections on etsy. I did buy a couple to put away in my stash until I get much better. I have also been scouring the magazines, like Spin-Off to find me just the right Spinning Wheel. I am not in a hurry, doing my research, finding out what would be just the right wheel. Not only would it be my first wheel, but I intend it to be the only wheel. (For Now).

I also starting to make a scarf. I taught myself how to cable. It is just basic but I am getting the hang of it. I am using the Jojoland Rhythms I bought. Love the way the colors just flow together. I might keep this for myself, though not much use for it in Florida. Maybe this morning.

Hubby is working on a shawl for his sister. He designed it himself. He will be finishing up with it today and when he gets it blocked I will be posting it over on Ravelry. So check it out.

Everyone is fretting around gathering their supplies for the MS4. And waiting for the clues to start. I was considering on working on this with hubby. I watched everyone in the stores choose their yarn and beads. I was looking for yarn myself, but I wasn't looking for beads because I wasn't interested in doing the beads. I was then told that we didn't have a choice on not using beads. Well, that was the end of making that shawl. I was surfing Ravelry and came across a site called Goddess Knits. I found a beautiful shawl called Dracula's Bride.

I feel in love with it immediately, I wonder why! This was the shawl for the Halloween Mystery Shawl 2007. Well that sold me there. I signed up for and ordered the Halloween Mystery Shawl 2008. Now, we (yes we) may not finish it in time but I think we will enjoy it more then the other.

I am trying to decide what yarn to use for it. I may use what is called for but I will probably know by this weekend.
I am working on something right now. It is something different and in my opinion you need more then 2 hands! I am using my Alpaca with a Twist, since I decided to not finish what I was making with it. When I get going better I will be posting it.

Its a Beautiful day today. Bright and sunny. All the birds are out and butterflies are everywhere. The air is starting to smell like fall is coming. YEAH!. I am an autumn fan. The pigskins are flying, the leaves are starting to change, a slight cool breeze is starting to blow. Dreams of apple and pumpkin pies are abound. Time to air out the sweaters you hardly have a chance to wear. Give me cool weather any day of the year.!!

I know it is a month before hubby's birthday, but I had to get him his gift early.
He called me on the cellphone as he was driving to the beach the other day, dropping a hint. He said , quote, "You don't have to buy me anything for my birthday and christmas this year." Okay, I bit. Why? Because Dolly Parton is coming to town and he really, really wants to go and see her. Well, tickets go on sale today. But yesterday I joined the "Dolly-ites" (yeah, I did) which allowed me to buy the tickets before they go on sale today, and get the chance to get the reserved seating. Well, I handed him 2 tickets to Dolly yesterday. I should have made the agreement that he couldn't buy anything on eBay for the rest of the year instead!! Got to think ahead. So on the 21st of October you will find us in the front seats watching Dolly, and friends!! Wish me luck!!

Well, Fay was kind to us. We had a lot of water but no damage. We were with out power for over 10 hours. Thankfully we had battery operated fans to keep us coo; and a lot of lanterns and candles. And you can not forget the battery operated alarm clock. That is a must! All our trees and bushes are leaning towards the west, and all the leaves are whipped off the east side of them. It is amazing how much water can come down. Our neighbors next to us and across from us had a flooded yard. The water covered half of the road and you could not see where our driveway was. If you see that little white thing in the middle of the picture, that is what was left of our security light. Hubby spent the morning straightening all the arbors and finding the trash cans. Also he was finding some new interesting land snails. That made his day.
I spent the few days before Fay came washing all laundry in the house. I wanted to make sure everything was cleaned in case of a power outage. Which did happen. At least I do not have to spent the rest of the weekend doing laundry. I am re-reading a book I read last year, mostly because I want to start reading the next three in the series. I want to make sure of where I am when I start the 2nd one. I also started another knitting project. It has given me trouble and I had someone cast it on for me because mine was way to loose. I'll post it when I can get it over half done. A little mystery for you all to wonder about.

It is nice to sit in my living room and look out the front door and watch all the Hummingbirds having lunch on our bush and baby Cardinal birds flying, eating and sunbathing on our porch. I was able to sneak a pic before this little fellow flew away.

Spring Mystery Swap Package

I am finally getting around to posting the pictures of my package from Patt at Whoduknit. Sorry if it is late. My hubby's brother past away a week ago. Sudden, and we had to handle this.

I wanted to Thank Patt for her package. It actually cheer me up at this time.

Patt knitted me a pair of fingerless gloves and a scarf. She include a lovely skein of Cascade The Heathers, in a teal color, Jaguar colors! Some stitch markers, DPN's, measuring tape and a needle gauge. Some mints, a bracelet, and a watch key, which is now hanging on my purse. And a pattern to knit up a scarf. Everything was great.

Well, here is the final picture of the crochet lace wrap the hubby finished. It is called Crous Bud. He used Jojoland melody yarn. And yes, the yarn does its own coloring. It came out beautiful.

As I was roaming around Ravelry I came across this site for yarn bowls. I have seen other bowls but when I saw these I was sold. Why you ask? With other bowls you put your yarn through the hole and you can not remove the yarn until you finish the project or you frog it. With these bowls you slide your yarn in and it stays in the hole while working. And whenever you want you can just slide out the yarn and switch projects. You not stuck with leaving the project in the bowl. I love them. I wanted the one on the left but hubby picked it out first, so mine is on the right. Don't you just love them? I am really thinking of starting hubby's own knitting blog. But then again, I wouldn't have anything to blog!
I found this pattern on Ravelry and just had to have hubby crochet it up. Once it is blocked I will post a more in depth shot of it. It is a lace pattern that is gorgeous. I had him use my Jojoland Melody yarn. Yes the yarn does that beautiful coloring. Like I said gorgeous. We bought more of this yarn, but with a more blue purple highlights for another. And yes, crochet Lace is just as beautiful as knitted.

Yarn Hunting..

I sometimes feel like that when I walk into a yarn store. You stand there and stalk the skeins till one just happens to catch your attention and stares you down as you circle the room several times. Everyone looks at you weirdly, not knowing that you are in a turmoil. Buy the yarn or not to buy, that is the dilemma. Do you go home and have a mind freeze because you didn't and you race back to the store and hope no one else captured it, which usually always happens. Or you give in and grab it and it sisters and high tale it to the register before some one else takes an interest? Well, this weekend, the credit cards were locked and loaded, the skeins within my scope, I attacked! I captured several skeins of Misti Alpaca and Claudia Hand Painted Yarns.Of course both preys were sock yarn. I have been finding some nice patterns for scarves and shawls that are using sock yarn now. And you can use it in place of DK yarn. Hubby just finished the Tunisian shawl with Pagewood sock yarn. It gives it a beautiful feel to it. It keeps you warm without over heating you. So experiment. Try something new today!!

Jacksonville Shell Show 08

Our annual pilgrimage to our Shell Show was this past weekend. After a busy week getting it all together (you would think I would learn to start next years the day after the show and not a week before!) it was well worth all the hard work. We received the R. Tucker Abbott Memorial Award this year. Hubby really wanted this one. Quietly, so did I.
Our exhibit was a total of 80 feet. It took two sides of the exhibit table. 46 cases in all. Hubby was the show chairman this year. Interesting experience, yet he wants to do it again next year. I'm planning on getting his head shrinked!

I loved this yarn so much that I asked hubby if he would make me something. This is what he made. He started with a basic pattern but as he worked he improvised it to this design. It took awhile to find the needle. Try and find a size N Tunisian hook (Mary Maxim's catalog). In the old days it would have been called afghan hook, but you know how every now and then everything gets re-invented. It didn't look like much while he was working on it but after blocking out came a shawl. Really pretty.

The stitches look so much like knitting.

I had to go across town to buy some spices from Penzey's and I stopped by one of the yarn stores on the way home. I wanted to use my $15 free merchandise coupon up before I couldn't. My luck is when I get them full they stop doing them. I found some lovely sock yarn, Claudia Hand Painted Yarns.I choose the Red wagon color. They had another color, Tropicana, that look so like candy you wanted to eat it! I also picked up some patterns. I found a pretty shawl that you can use sock yarn. Well, if I can't knit socks I can still use the pretty yarn for something! I also found a great pattern that I will use for my dishcloth swap package.

This skein has a blend of my favorite colors!

Hubby has been making a shawl in a Tunisian (also called Tricot Crochet, Shepherd's Knitting, Hook Knitting, Railroad Knitting and Afghan stitch) also pattern with another pretty sock yarn I had. It is called Rainbow Sherbet. I will post pictures on my Raverly site and Flicker when it is done.

I have knitted now for about 2 years and crocheted for many more then I should reveal!

2. Do you enjoy using metal, wooden, or some other kind of needle\hook?
For knitting I like to use either metal or wooden. For crochet I like Inox hooks.

3. What are your favorite types of yarn? Any you just can't stand?
I love any soft yarns like alpaca. I do not like plastic yarn, that is what I call acrylic yarn. Oh yeah, say no to fuzzy fur!

4. When it comes to cotton, are there any brands you'd love to try and haven't?
Well, I have tried Peaches & cream, sugar & cream. I saw some Katia brand that looked nice.

5. When you make Dishcloths, do you use them yourself, or tend to give them as gifts?
I tend to give them away as gifts. But I keep them ones I receive. They are special to me.

6. Do you have a favorite color? Any that you dislike?
I love a salmon color. Don’t really like pink.

7. What color(s) (if any!) are your kitchen and bath decorated in?
Kitchen is mostly done in a Tuscany scheme. The bathe room what be like a Monet painting. Soft pastel colors.

I love fresh apple scent, lavender and citrus scents.

Winter is just around the corner! Also there will be no more speeding cars in front of the house since school will be out!!

I would be sitting in the house with door closed and the drapes drawn, with the fans blowing the air around the house. I am not a fan of hot weather. And me living in Florida!

Reading and collecting cowries.

Dragonflies, Dachshunds and Merry Moo Moos. Specimen Cowry shells. And Hubby would say Books! I also started collecting crab items, as in blue crabs.

was what we needed. We have been working long and hard for the past couple of months. Family matters have also taken their toll. So what we needed was a day away from everything. So we woke early, got ready and got into the Element and we hit the road. Saint Augustine is an hour drive from where we live and that is where headed. We found a parking space at the Fort .

We started at the city gates and headed south on St. George's street. Had fun shopping in all the different stores.

We had lunch at the Columbia Resturant. Always heard good things about it. But on this day it didn't live up to it "press". The waiter was excellent. The fresh bread was great but the main course was not. When the waiter apologized for it taking a while to come out, he mentioned the cook having a bad hangover. And the food was not good. The fish was way overdone. It was a good thing the salad was large and good that it filled me up. If you visit here I would ask if the chef had a good night before!!!

We continued along the street doing our shopping.

The town still has it charming old style. The plants were also flourishing.

Fountains were also abundant.

The streets are still the old stone paved. A little bumpy if you drove a car over them.

We stopped off at this little place to get a cool frozen lemonade. Just what we needed to cool down.

Here is a picture of an old well. It was behind the house where the residences could gather the water. Now it is gated over and the flowers are enjoying it now.

There was the pretty garden outside in the back of one of the shops. The well was also part of this garden. I would love to just sit in this garden to read a good book!

All in all we had a great time. It wasn't that hot and the rain stayed away. On our way home we ate at "Le Pavillon". As always we had one of the best dinners. If anyone finds themselves in Saint Augustine, this is where you eat. We might head back there next week. Who knows!!

Anniversary Day

Well, if it could break down or blow up (at work) today was that day. That was how our anniversary day started and how the weekend ended. I think we will celebrate our anniversary next week instead!!
I did get a great gift, (though it is both of ours but more mine). A new camera. I have been wanting to get a new one for a long, long time. We bought an extra zoom lens with it also. So I have a choice of two different lens for it. Had to buy a big camera bag to carry everything. It has been awhile since I felt a real camera in my hand. To hear and feel the mirror clicking inside brought back memories. I might even try to digout my old 35mm to see if any of the attachments fit. They should since both cameras are Canon's. All I need now is the time to play around with it.

Meet My Big Brother

I wanted to share a picture of my brother George. He is 10 years older then me and my oldest big brother. I always looked up to him when I was little. He always found time to do little things with me. I rather grew up a tomboy trying to mimic my brother. He took auto shop, I wanted to take auto shop. When he went off to the navy back in 69' and I didn't want to say goodbye because I thought if I didn't he couldn't leave. I must have written a letter every week and in turn recieved one from him. Luckily he scored a Med tour and not Nam. My folks then followed him to Florida after he got out of the navy and thats why I live here. His fault! We don't see much of each other during our busy lives, even though we live in the same town, but I know if I needed him, he would be there in a minute. One always thinks that the people in their lives will always be there. And then something happens to make you stop for a minute and rethink.

So here in cyber space I am letting everyone know that I love my brother.

I recieved my package from my swap partner (who lives around where I spent my best summers growing up) for the Defeat the Doldrums dishcloth swap on Thursday. I waited until today to open it. It has been a busy week and I wanted to start out my weekend with surprises! The package was filled with great goodies! Thank You very much Carol! I will take some pictures later today and post all the goodies. I love the cloth you made. I actually have that pattern lined up to knit after I finish the one on my needles. (Hi! I am new to this family. They adopted me Tuesday. They call me Coco Divine. I am Marielle's half sister, we have the same sire. I hope they will love me!)

Yes, we have a wonderful new baby girl. We waited over 2 years for her. We wanted another baby from the same parents because Marielle has the most wonderful attitude. She has us totally trained. Little Coco has the same manners as Marielle. They seem to get along great. Have to potty train her though. All these puppy pads everywhere!! But she is worth it.

I learned an easier way to cast on last night. It is the crochet cast on. Absolutely a wonderful way to do it. And I can do it all by MYSELF! Now I can start working on projects that I have always put off because I never could cast on with out help. I hate asking for help, even though Hubby is glad to do it. No more tight stitches on the needles!!

Finished my dishcloth for my swap partner in the "Defeat the Winter Doldrums" Dishcloth Swap. All there is to do is weave in the ends and block it. It looks okay, though the pattern itself was off by 1 stitch. Had to figure where to correct it. The color (camel) is more pretty in person then the picture shows.

Good question. Our temp's got in the 80's today as it did yesterday. Maybe they need to send ole Punxsutawney Phil on a road trip down here in Florida. Let's see what is in bloom: Azalea's, Forsythia’s, Vinca vines and the Narcissus too. Our Pussy Willow “tree” is starting to bud out also. Most of all the bushes are starting to sprout out also. Of course I do expect there will another frost that will zap all of the fresh green growth. It usually does. The birds must think it is Spring also. The yard is filling up with them also. Guess I will need to go to the store and buy up some more seeds. Can’t forget the squirrels either.
Been practicing my knitting. My casting on still stinks, guess Hubby comes in handy. I got the Norwegian cast on down pat. Just the regular long tail gives me trouble. Go figure. Finished my dishcloth for my swap partner. Will be putting my package together next week. I’m knitting a cloth right now making up my own pattern as I knit. Hope it will come out nice.

Hubby surprised me really good for my Birthday!! We were having lunch at our favorite restaurant when he put a bag on the table. In side was a jewelry box. I looked at it and thought he got me a pair of earrings. Well, it wasn't earrings. I creaked open the box and immediately dropped the case. After crying I finally opened the case all the way and found this beautiful Champagne Diamond (3ct) ring in it. Hubby was with me when I saw this in the store and feel in love with it. So he went back last week and bought it for me. I love it because is reminds me off the Victorian style. I told him he had to buy a special board so I could place my arm on it to show off my special gift. He did real good!!

Here is the hat hubby made. I found the pattern in Interweave Crochet Winter 2008. It is called "Stone Path Hat" by Lisa Naskrent. He used Louet Gems sport wt. We both crochet and knit but, Hubby wanted to try his hand at cable work within crochet. I guess because both of us get really tired of the knitter's we meet that put down crocheting. All they seem to think crochet is all about is granny squares! To be honest I never made a square. I do admit to doing ripple afghans. He wanted to show that there is much more you can do in crochet. The patterns that are being designed today are becoming equally beautiful as some of the knitting patterns out there. Interweave Crochet has some of the nicest pattern's to date. So before you put crochet down just give it a chance (take the nose out of the clouds!). And a good thought, crocheters spend MORE money on yarn then knitters!!

Some Goals for 2008

I decided to not put to much pressure on my resolutions this year. Basically just take each day one at a time. But the following is just a few that I have been thinking about.

1. Making it through surgery safely. Doing this will make the following easier to do. (I did this one!)
2. Finish reading the books on my unread shelf. (I could open a library!)
3. Cast on my socks mate to the one I completed, and knit it finished.
4. Stream back my hours at work from full time to part time.
5. Find a knitting/crochet project that I really like and make it. (I also did this one too!)

Hello world!

It has been two years now since I started my blog. I have met many kind and wonderful people and some very special friends! (Hi Jane!) I have been part of many great swaps also. And look forward to being part of many more swaps. And also meeting more wonderful friends.

I've read too few books. Acquired many more books so I need to start reading! Bought way too much yarn. And didn't knit/crochet as much as I would have liked. But I bought a lot of knitting/crocheting books to find something to make with all that stash. And remember, sock yarn doesn't count as part of your stash!

Worked to much. Plan on changing that. Haven't spent much time with hubby. But plan on spending more time with him. Didn't do much traveling but looking forward towards taking short road trips. And going to start taking it easier and one day at a time.

I will be taking time off for a couple of months.

For those who have inquired, I will be having major surgery the first part of January and I am getting everything all sorted out now. There is a lot to do, especially with the holidays. I hope to be able to pop in and read some blogs I enjoy.

WhoDuKnit Hoilday Swap Package

I received my wonderful package last week on Thursday. From Joan in Texas. I had to find where I put the camera!

There was a copy of A Christmas Beginning by Anne Perry that looks like a great read. I never read any of her books, can't wait to start it. It also came with a bookmark. And the wildest postcard from Texas! The recipe Joan sent was for Cranberry Salsa. It looks great to make. Hubby will have to make 2 separate batches though. His (jalapenos) and hers (wuss here, no hotties!) Also there was this little round box full of Chocolate Bars. Yummy milk and white chocolate swirled, with pistachios and cranberry's. These were so good I didn't want to share them with hubby!! I some what begged Joan for the recipe for these special treats and she was very kind to give it to me. I will share that with hubby. I got a cute little sweater (below). We didn't put a regular tree up this year so I have it hanging on the mantel with the stockings. It looks so adorable hanging up there. But hopefully next year it will go on the "official" tree.

Here is the finished cape/stole that hubby did. It is a pineapple pattern. Once it was blocked the pattern showed beautifully. It was crocheted with Louet Gems Fingering wt. The color is coral.

Well here is the end finished tablecloth that Hubby did. Isn't is beautiful? He started this in september and finished it this past weekend. He used Schaefer Yarns. Colorway is Frida Kahlo. I have more pictures on my Ravelry site.

I finally have something that looks like a sock! I think the hardest thing about making a sock to me was getting the casting done. I have a problem with this on 1 needle, you should have have seen me doing it on 3! There were some stitches I have never done before but I got the hang of it. I just have to work it down to 60 stitches and then get it to the size before I go in for my final lesson on the toe. I'm glad that I found all of my Mom's dpn's. They will be handy.
I even went ahead and joined the Sockin Sock Club. I emailed my intent and I am posting my form in the mail today. I have seen the yarns that they send out and have drool over the colors. So I made sure that I sat in front of the CPU at exactly 10AM and got in. I am looking forward to next years mail!

WOW! I wrote and uploaded this from my Flicker account. Way cool. I can upload my pictures then if I want to post the picture to my blog I can do it from that site. How easy was that. Thanks to Ravelry I have a Flicker account, so maybe now I will post more often.
